Belly Dance Teachers
I already have a listing, how do I update my information?
Email us your updates, along with your name and location -
as it is currently listed in our directory. We will refresh your data as soon as possible.
I want to include a picture with my listing, how do I do that?
At the end of the "Add Yourself" submission form, instructions are provided for picture accompaniment.
I already have a listing and want to include a picture, how do I do that?
Visit the Picture Formatting and Submittal Process page. When you have completed the process, you will have a unique URL to your picture. Use the "Contact Us" form to email this link. Be sure to include your name, as listed in the directory, as well as city, state, and country, so we know who to attribute the picture to.
When will my listing be published?
Premium listings have a two business day turn around. We try to process free listings within, approximately, one month from the
submittal date. Often they are added much sooner, but it can take up
to one month.
Why wasn't my listing published?
Chances are, the submission failed to meet one or more of the guidelines
as outlined in the "Add Your Listing" page. To recap:
Pertinent data was missing
You entered your information in all capital letters
Your data was submitted in a language other than English
Why don't you offer free listings anymore?
We, at BellyDanceClasses.net, have offered a free listing option since the directory opened in 2006. We elected to disable the free listing option in July of 2010 because the sheer volume of free submissions had become overwhelming and we simply could not keep up. Should the directory be rebuilt to accommodate self adding/editing we would most likely reinstate a free listing option at that time. We do still process Premium Listings and if you would like to appear in the directory please utilize that service.
Can I have multiple listings?
In the USA, YES, multiple free and premium listings are welcome. Because the US section of the directory is structured by city, teachers can add themselves in as many cities as applicable. At this time, outside of the USA, we limit one free listing per teacher - with the exception of Canada, if you teach in more than one province. All other regions exist on one page therefore one listing per page. We do plan to rebuild other regions for more specific structure in the future, and multiple listings will be available at that time.
How much are the premium listings and what's the benefit?
The premium listings are 10.00 US dollars per year. They are processed within 2 busines days (opposed to 1 month), you get a larger
picture, 114x130 that expands to 342x390 (instead of the free size of 70x80), you get to include a personal
message to potential students and your add is placed at or near the
top of your ciy/state/country page. Visit the "Add Your Listing" link to proceed.

Belly Dance Students
Can you recommend a teacher in my area?
Most likely, no.
Do you screen for competency?
No. And I would caution you not to automatically trust that every teacher is a
master of his or her discipline. You can ask after the instructor on one of the main Belly dance forums,
like our own BellyDanceForums.net, it's fairly likely that you will
get some kind of feedback. Also, take a moment to read this article on finding
A Competent Teacher.
What if there are no teachers listed in my locale?
Try looking at listings in neighboring cities. If no luck, try posting
on bellydanceforums.net. Not every last Belly dance teacher is listed
here, yet.
What does all this "Egyptian Raqs Sharqi", "Urban Tribal"... stuff mean? I just want to
learn Belly dance.
If you are new to the scene, you may be surprised to learn that there
is actually no such thing as generic Belly dance. There are 3
distinct styles of Belly dance promoted as a performance art from source countries - Turkey, Lebanon
and Egypt. In addition, there are many other styles that range to a 'half sister' of the authentic styles, like
American Oriental, to theater/fantasy based styles like
American Tribal Style, Tribal fusion and so on. And also quite a few
fusion genres, not to mention folk dances from the Near
and Middle east... The "Dance Style" section allows you to see what that teacher
specializes in.
Listings are not in alphabetical order... How are they ranked?
Premium listings, where applicable, are listed first. Free listings
are ranked by data. The more information the teacher provides; picture,
phone number, email, website etc. the higher the listing is displayed
on the page.
